How to clean the soap pot: recycling natural handmade soap leftovers and scraps
The best way I've found to reuse (rather than wash away) the soap that remains in the pot after pouring, is to leave the soap set for a few hours (or best, overnight). When the soap is no longer sticky, I half fill the pot with cold water and bring to the boil. I then use this soapy water for a washing machine load.
For best results with the laundry if the soap in the pot was heavily superfatted (more than 4%), you can add a little bit of caustic soda (NaOH or KOH) to the water, before cooking.
