Authentic, high-quality natural handmade soap is a relatively new product. Also, since the as natural as possible soapmaking process we use is much more complex, delicate and labour-intensive than commercial manufacturing, no natural handmade soap can be mass-produced, and sourcing the right ingredients for a reasonable price can be a very challenging task.
The average handmade soap manufacturer can feel very lonely and isolated indeed, in a world where quantity is usually regarded with more respect than quality!
For these and other reasons, most handmade soapmakers spend a fair share of their time "networking" with fellow soapmakers. A number of Internet mailing lists are dedicated to discussions about soap, but we believe a lot more can be said and done on the subject.
